professional, confidential counselling to help you create the life you want

Kia Ora and Welcome

Every person has a unique story and strengths. Counselling is a safe and confidential space to talk about personal challenges, relationships and difficult life experiences. In our work together, we can also explore your hopes, dreams, new perspectives and preferred ways of being. Ultimately, what we focus on is up to you. I am passionate about helping people find meaning in their lives and to develop a better understanding of themselves. It is an honour to get to know you and to be a part of your journey.

About me

I am originally from Thunder Bay, Canada and have had the privilege of living in New Zealand since 2012. I am a māmā, partner, sister, daughter, friend, advocate, and counsellor. I value diversity and respect our differences and similarities as “fellow travelers” in this journey of life (Yalom, 1995).

My professional experience includes working alongside young people and families in clinical and community settings since 2003. I have held a variety of roles in alternative education, residential care, in hospital as part of an adolescent psychiatry team, in various social services, and I completed an internship at a university Health & Counselling Centre. I currently offer individual online and in-person (Wednesday & Friday at The Practice-Orewa House) counselling sessions for teens + adults, dealing with a range of challenges.

My Approach

I practice from a Pluralistic approach (not a one-size-fits-all) and collaborate with you to determine ways of working together that will meet your needs. My therapy interests include narrative therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, and solution-focused therapy, among others. I have also trained in Multisystemic therapy. I value indigenous models of health and healing; however, I recognize my limitations as tauiwi/non-Māori. I prefer to work holistically, considering the mind/body/spirit connection, alignment, and balance in your life.
